Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido

Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido is one of the oldest traditional sword schools of Japan, beginning about 450 years ago. The iaido group at Windsong is directly connected with John Ray Sensei, Hachidan (8th Dan) Hanshi (master teacher), who heads The Dojo in Denton, Texas, and through him with Tanida Sensei, Jyudan (10th Dan) Hanshi (master teacher) Menkyo Kaiden holder and kancho of the Chiba Dojo, Chiba City, Japan. We follow the teachings of the 23rd Soke, Fukui Masato Soke, leader of the Eishin Ryu Seitokai Iaido Association and president of the Zen Nihon Iaido Renmei (ZNIR, All Japan Iaido Federation). Classes are led by Edward Smith Rokudan (6th Dan) Renshi (teacher).

Class: Saturdays 9:15 – 11:00 AM

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

To begin the class students will need workout clothing (long pants such as sweats, and a t-shirt) and a bokken (wooden training sword). Eventually the student will need to obtain standard Iaido clothing: Keiko Gi (top), Hakama, Obi (belt). Also, eventually the student will need to obtain an approved Iaito (unsharpened training sword, usually aluminum). Imitation samurai swords, (MogiTou) sold for display, are generally unsafe for Iaido practice and will not be allowed in class. When the student is ready for an Iaito, the instructor will give guidance to reputable vendors of quality training equipment.

Students must be 13 years of age or older to join the class.
